Understanding the Differences Between Traditional Timeshare and Flexible Vacation Ownership

Club Wyndham South Pacific has recently expanded its portfolio by acquiring interests in existing traditional timeshare resorts across Australia and New Zealand. This exciting move opens up even more destinations for owners to explore. While these newly acquired properties offer a unique experience, they complement the usual Club offerings.

Traditional Timeshare vs. Club Wyndham South Pacific Ownership

Traditional timeshare ownership generally falls into two categories:

  • Fixed Week Ownership: This gives the owner the right to use the same apartment at the same resort during the same week every year. It’s guaranteed but less flexible
  • Floating Week Ownership: This allows the owner to book any week within a specified season (e.g. white, red, blue weeks), depending on availability. It offers more flexibility than fixed weeks but does not guarantee a specific week unless booked early. Availability is often on a first-come, first-served basis and still limited to 7-night blocks.

Club Wyndham South Pacific has purchased both types of intervals.

By contrast, Club Wyndham South Pacific vacation ownership uses a flexible, credits-based system. Owners receive annual vacation credits that can be used at various locations at times of their choice, providing more flexibility and freedom in planning holidays.

Acquisition of Traditional Timeshare Weeks

The Developer has been able to secure more drive-to destinations for Club Wyndham South Pacific owners by acquiring 1,828 timeshare weeks (which is equivalent to 35 apartments) across 11 different traditional timeshare resorts. These resorts include a variety of apartment sizes, from studios to three-bedroom units.

Booking Guidelines for Newly Acquired Resorts

  • Stay Duration: Bookings are for seven-day intervals only.
  • Check-In/Check-Out Days: Arrivals and departures are limited to Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Housekeeping Tokens: One housekeeping token is required per interval (seven days) booked.
  • Apartment Changes: You may need to change apartments if booking more than one consecutive interval.
  • Management: These resorts and their facilities are not managed by the club, so standards may differ from other club-managed properties

Additionally, each of these resorts has its own booking system. While Club Wyndham has acquired a mix of fixed and floating timeshare intervals, the booking window for fixed intervals is 13 months. For floating intervals, the booking window will vary based on the specific club’s rules, which may be shorter than 13 months.

These differences are important for planning your holidays. While the expanded options offer more destinations, the booking process might be a bit different from what you’re used to with Club Wyndham South Pacific properties. Be sure to familiarise yourself with these guidelines so you can make the most of your holiday experiences.
