8-1 花春町 Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima 965-0804, Japan
First established in the 1380s, Oyaku-en is a traditional herb garden famous for its tranquillity and natural beauty. It’s home to over 400 varieties of medicinal herbs and trees, as well as the pond Shinji no Ike, which is shaped like the kanji character for ‘heart’. The on-site buildings are all constructed using traditional methods – they include the Chōyōkaku (a large hostel once used by royalty), the Ochayagoten (an ancient tea house) and the Rakujutei (a tea ceremony cottage).
