The verdant, summer-swept hills of Tuscany are an idyllic fantasy.  What could be better for holidaymakers than relaxing in the balmy Mediterranean climate, sampling the area’s delicious food, and roaming the picturesque countryside in a genuine Italian sports car?

One of the Palaia region’s highlights are its historic sites.  Italy is a country with an extensive past, and is home to some of the world’s most beautifully-preserved architecture, as well as a wide range of ancient buildings and cultural icons.  In Palaia, you’ll find places like San Martino church, an antiquated Romanesque building which is still used today.  The Tempio di Minerva Medica is another beautiful attraction, and was constructed in the early nineteenth century as a dedication to the goddess of medicine, Minerva Medica.  Of course, Colleoli is only a forty-minute drive from Pisa, so we’d be remiss in not pointing out your proximity to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a global icon and one of medieval Italy’s greatest relics.

Pisa also houses a great range of museums, like the National Museum of San Matteo, the Museum of Ancient Ships, and the Botanical Museum.  Even if you’re not usually a history buff, it’s a humbling experience to view artefacts dating back to the Roman era; the Botanical Museum, in particular, is a unique Palaian experience that you shouldn’t miss.

Italy’s also famous for its culture of aestheticism, so it makes sense that Pisa has a range of gorgeous art galleries.  From the thriving exhibitions of the Palazzo Blu, to the classicism of the Museum of Opera del Duomo, to Centro Arte Moderna’s contemporary artwork, there’s something to suit everyone.

We’ve all been to an Italian restaurant or ten, but a trip to Palaia is the perfect chance to try authentic Italian cuisine.  In Colleoli, I Secoli’s al fresco dining experience is perfectly suited to warm summer nights, while I Tigli pizzeria will prove to you that pineapple does not belong on pizza.  Afterwards, wash down your meal with some locally-produced wine, and attend a live performance at the beautiful Amphitheatre Fonte Mazzola.
