Travel north from Vancouver for two hours, and you’ll stumble across one of Canada’s not-so-hidden gems.  The alpine town of Whistler is well-known among the skiing community for having some of the country’s best slopes, but it’s also gaining popularity as a beautiful summer destination with a host of great activities.  Whether you love hitting the powder, or you’re just a fan of stunning scenery, Whistler should definitely be on your to-visit holiday list.

There’s technically four seasons in a year, but you can divide your Whistler visit into just two: snow or no snow.  A winter visit means layering up in thermals, ski jackets and mitts, watching your breath fog when you step outside, and seeing some of the most incredible vistas in the world.  Get out into the wild with adventures like skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing, or try activities like peak-to-peak gondola rides, snowmobiling, and winter ziplining.  Whistler is a global tourist destination, so virtually every activity caters to different skill levels and ages.

Once the white has melted, you’ll start seeing a new side to the region.  Previously icy lakes become popular swimming spots, snow-shrouded conifers transform into green forest, and you’ll get access to a diverse selection of hiking and biking trails.  Ziplining and gondola rides are operational all year round, but new activities include access to sprawling golf courses, as well as the uniquely Canadian experience of bear viewing.

Whistler’s après culture means the wining and dining scene is very much alive and well, so you don’t need to worry about finding delicious food.  Traditional American and pub meals mingle with upscale Italian and Japanese, and there’s a variety of beverages – including numerous craft beers – that are served by virtually every eatery.  If you’re skiing solo or an adult with a partner, Whistler’s nightlife is well worth checking out.  Its status as a major tourist hub means you’ll meet like-minded people from around the world, which makes for a fantastic clubbing experience.
