Visiting Vancouver means unsurpassed skiing, fishing, hiking, but there’s more than outdoor recreation on offer in the City of Lights. Museums, art galleries, markets, multicultural cuisine, ‘Hollywood North’ movie studios, Science World’s OMNIMAX theatre and historic highlights are all part of Vancouver’s unique charm.

As the largest city in British Columbia, Vancouver stretches along the western half of Burrard Peninsula bounded by English Bay, the Burrard Inlet and Fraser River. The majestic North Shore Mountains overlook the city and are located only 30 minutes away. Head north for Lions Gate Bridge, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and the Cypress, Seymour and Grouse Mountains. Summer tours of the bridge park include guided walks through old-growth forest canopy and the Cliffwalk experience. Hike the ‘Grouse Grind’, fly on zip-lines or opt for a relaxing gondola ride to the summit of Grouse Mountain. When the snow falls, hit the slopes for skiing, tubing and snowboarding.

Vancouver is consistently hailed as the most beautiful city in the world for its panoramic mountain views and countless gardens. Stanley Park borders the downtown precinct and boasts 1000 acres of urban reserve, which house Vancouver Aquarium, First Peoples Totem Poles, and stunning flower gardens. Hike amongst gigantic ‘monument trees’, cycle scenic seawall paths or simply relax along peaceful lakeshores. Kids will love the heated pool, golfing green and Stanley Park Mini Train, a winding ride through majestic cedar and fir trees. Indulge your tastebuds with grilled cheese, tacos and sushi from one of the numerous food trucks.

Many highlights are within strolling distance from the city centre. Peruse the Vancouver Art Gallery, Chinatown markets and historic Gastown’s cobblestone streets. Shop Robson Street’s department stores and boutiques, then grab a bus tour of Vancouver’s unique districts, including Yaletown, Kitsalano, Mt Pleasant, Commercial Drive and Coal Harbour. For a taste of history – and Vancouver salmon – visit Richmond’s Steveston Village, salmon capital of the world. Granville Island’s vibrant theatre precinct offers a variety of entertainment, with craft beer, art galleries, shopping and dining overlooking False Creek. Night owls can sip cocktails or enjoy the dance-club vibe at Aura, Cabana Lounge or The Roxy.
