Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji needs no introduction.  It’s one of Shizuoka’s top draws, and is a major Shinto site, with dozens of sengen shrines scattered across its slopes.  If you’re enjoying a Shizuoka holiday, or visiting Japan generally, climbing Fuji should be at the top of your itinerary.  The climbing season ranges from mid/late June to about mid-September; outside this period, extreme weather conditions and heavy snow mean you won’t be able to hike.  The Fuji-climbing peak season stretches from the end of July to the end of August (Japanese school holidays), and culminates in the Obon Week (mid August), which should be avoided due to its massive congestion.
