Sengokuhara, 箱根町 Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa 250-0631, Japan
The Sengokuhara Susuki Kusahara is a sprawling field of pampas grass that covers the western slope of Mount Hakone. With feathery plumes between 2 – 3 metres tall, these magnificent grasses are exceptionally popular with photographers. You can explore the field via a single paved path which stretches up the mountainside; wandering away from the track is frowned upon by locals, due to the damage it inflicts upon the field. To see the grasses’ famous, silver-gold colouring, we recommend visiting during late autumn.
