Enoshima

With traditional shrines, sea caves, beaches and hot springs, Enoshima is a tourist’s paradise.  Located about 25 minutes from Kamakura, this fascinating island is best explored as a day trip.  It’s accessible via a short bridge, so, if you’ve hired a car, you can park in a paid lot; alternatively, catch a bus in.  According to legend, the island was raised from the sea by Benzaiten, a Japanese Buddhist goddess, and its main temple, Enoshima Shrine, is dedicated to her.  Other great attractions include Enoshima Aquarium, the Samuel Cocking Garden and the towering Enoshima Sea Candle.
