Kakunai, Shirakawa, Fukushima 961-0074, Japan
Located in Shirakawa, in Fukushima’s south, Komine Castle is a combination of original and rebuilt structures. Its triple-tiered keep and front gate were both restored to their original glory during the ’90s, and, now, they’re open to visitors for exploration. The castle is also famous for its floral displays. In April, its sakura trees become heavy with cherry blossom; in June, roughly 4,000 roses start to flower.
