Abukuma-do is one of Fukushima’s most interesting natural phenomena. Spanning three kilometres, this network of limestone caverns features a staggering display of stalagmites, stalactites and rock formations. Most of the caves are easily accessible, with good lighting, handrails and stairs. For those wanting a little more adventure, there’s a 120-metre exploration course that runs parallel to the main caves. It’s designed as a challenge – at various points, visitors have to crawl through narrow passages, so, if you’re claustrophobic, give this one a miss!
