Gros Horloge

Rue du Gros Horloge, 76000 Rouen, France

One of Rouen’s most unique offerings, the Gros Horloge, or ‘Great Clock’, is an astrological clock dating back to the 1300s.  As one of Europe’s oldest surviving clocks, this fascinating mechanism is definitely worth a look.  It’s currently housed in a Renaissance arch that spans Rue du Gros Horloge, and visitors can participate in a 40-minute behind-the-scenes tour, which includes the belfry, dials room, bells chamber and clockmaster’s workshop.  Whether you’re a history buff or just someone wanting to visit Rouen’s most interesting attraction, the Gros Horloge needs a place on your itinerary.
