Abbaye de Jumièges

24 Rue Guillaume le Conquérant, 76480 Jumièges, France

Roughly an hour’s drive from Connelles, the Abbaye de Jumièges is one of France’s oldest monasteries.  It was first constructed in 654 by Saint Philibert, and, despite surviving centuries of attacks by English and Norse invaders, its tenure as a functional abbey was ended during the French Revolution.  Modern tourists can explore its vast ruins, which are marked by a quiet, contemplative atmosphere.  The Abbaye regularly offers open-air exhibitions, which include presentations from modern French artists, as well as seasonal activities like evening lightshows.  Children under 18 years receive free admission.
