Chinese Cemetery

1 Port Dr, Broome WA 6725

A byproduct of Broome’s pearling era, the Chinese cemetery is a fascinating reminder of how modern Broome was built.  Traditional Chinese headstones stand in sharp contrast to the surrounding acres of dry bushland, with the first person being interred in 1896.  Walk among 707 graves, and read the stone obelisk at the graveyard’s centre, which pays homage to those who drowned at sea in the 1908 Broome Cyclone.
