Some Japan resorts operate on an On Request basis through the Sundance Resort Club (SRC), while others may offer inventory for immediate confirmation online when availability has been allocated to Club Wyndham South Pacific owners. As a result, you may notice that some Japan resorts can be booked instantly, while others require a request to be submitted and confirmed by the resort.

Japanese rooms usually feature tatami flooring, futon bedding, and a more traditional layout, while Western rooms have standard beds and a more familiar hotel-style setup.

Japan has one of the world’s best public transport networks, making trains the easiest way to travel. You can check our comprehensive Transportation Guide here to see exactly how to navigate from Tokyo to your Club Resorts.
We highly recommend getting a rechargeable transit IC card, like a Suica or Pasmo card. These can be easily purchased at train stations or convenience stores and are used to tap-and-go on local trains, subways, and city buses. Note that high-speed Shinkansen (bullet trains) do not accept IC cards—you will need to buy those tickets separately at the station or online.
Japan has four distinct, beautiful seasons. Spring (Mar–May) offers mild weather and stunning cherry blossoms. Summer (Jun–Sep) is hot, vibrant, and humid. Autumn (Oct–Nov) brings cool, crisp weather with breath-taking red and gold leaves, while Winter (Dec–Feb) turns the mountainous areas into a world-class skiing wonderland with incredibly dry, fluffy powder snow.

English proficiency varies across Japan. While some resort team members speak great English, we highly recommend downloading a free translation app (like Google Translate or VoiceTra) before you leave. It is incredibly helpful when reading menus, looking at signs, or speaking with locals outside the resort.
You should bring both. While card and mobile payments are widely accepted in major cities, Japan still has a strong cash culture. You will definitely need physical Yen (JPY) for temple entry fees, traditional street food, small local restaurants, and recharging transport cards.
Yes, but you must exercise caution. Traditional wheat-based soy sauce (shoyu) is incredibly common in Japanese cooking. Safe, naturally gluten-free options include fresh sashimi, plain steamed rice, high-quality wagyu beef, and simple salted yakitori (grilled skewers). We highly recommend downloading a Japanese “gluten-free translation card” to show restaurant staff.
Traditionally, many public baths in Japan restrict entry to guests with visible tattoos. However, policies vary. If you are staying at Club Wyndham Chikumakan Nagano, Owners can book a complimentary, private 50-minute family onsen session per day, allowing you to enjoy the hot springs in total privacy.
Yes. Some onsens, sento, pools, and fitness centres may restrict visible tattoos.
Yes, modern Australian and New Zealand mobile phones will work perfectly in Japan since standard unlocked smartphones easily connect to Japan’s 4G and 5G networks. While your home SIM will automatically connect via international roaming, costing a flat fee per day through major providers, you can easily avoid daily fees by purchasing a budget-friendly travel eSIM online before you fly, or by renting a portable pocket Wi-Fi router directly at the airport to keep multiple devices connected.
Australia and New Zealand use Type I plugs (three flat, angled prongs), whereas Japan strictly uses Type A power outlets (two vertical, flat parallel pins). You will need to buy a standard AU/NZ-to-Japan (or AU/NZ-to-USA/Type A) travel adaptor before you fly. Furthermore, keep in mind that Japan runs on a much lower voltage (100 V) than Australia and New Zealand (230 V). While modern dual-voltage electronics like your smartphone, laptop, camera, or iPad will charge perfectly fine (just a tiny bit slower), high-powered heating appliances brought from home—such as hair dryers—will barely heat up at all and should be left behind in favor of the styling tools provided by your hotel or resort.
Club Wyndham South Pacific acknowledges the traditional custodians of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them, their culture and to the Elders past, present and emerging.
