Like everywhere else in Kauai, Hanalei Bay is beautiful – this small surfing town is surrounded by jungle-draped mountains and fronted by the waters of the Pacific. Because of its relative isolation, there’s an absence of big chains or resorts, and visitors will get to experience a relaxed, tropical ambience. Don’t stress, though, because there’s still plenty to do. Surf board lessons abound, as do other water-based activities like paddle-boarding and kayaking. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, find one of the area’s amazing hiking trails, or just explore the local food scene.
