The spectacular coastline of Kauai’s northwest lies within Nā Pali, one of the most incredible hiking locations in all of Hawaii. If the sight of rugged mountains plunging directly into the turquoise ocean doesn’t excite you, there’s extended hiking tracks and camping sites available. The Kalalau Trail is the only easy way to access this section of the coast, and is an 11-mile (17 km) trail that crosses five valleys before terminating at Kalalau Beach. It’s a visually-stunning experience, so bring your camera, but be prepared for the terrifying Crawler’s Ledge. If you have a fear of heights, make sure you look at some photos of the ledge before deciding to attempt it.
