Five Spots to Visit in Phillip Island for Your Summer Getaway

As the sun shines brighter and the temperature heats up, there’s no better place to be than Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia. This idyllic island situated just south of Melbourne is a true paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. It’s home to some of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders and exciting wildlife encounters you’ll ever experience, with the renowned Penguin Parade being just one of them.

Picture yourself standing on the beach at sunset, watching as hundreds of little penguins emerge from the ocean and waddle their way up the shore to their cozy burrows. It’s a sight that will take your breath away! But the Penguin Parade at Summerland Beach is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the island’s offerings.

Here are five more spots you simply can’t miss when you visit Phillip Island this summer:

Nobbies Centre. Located on the western side of the island, this coastal attraction boasts stunning views of the rugged coastline and the resident Australian fur seals. Visitors can stroll along the boardwalks and witness the seals basking on the rocks below. Also, keep an eye out for the many colourful birds that nest and feed on the cliffs surrounding the Nobbies Information Centre. Don’t forget to visit the interactive exhibit about the local marine life while you’re there!

Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. If you’re looking for a thrilling adventure, head to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. This world-renowned track is home to the world’s leading motorsport series, including the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and the Superbike World Championship. It hosts various motorsport events throughout the year, and visitors can even take a lap around the circuit themselves in a go-kart.

Cape Woolamai. For a more laid-back experience, stroll along the Cape Woolamai Circuit Walk. This scenic hike takes you through rugged coastal landscapes and offers stunning views of the island’s beaches, cliffs, and the spectacular ancient pink granite of the Pinnacles rock. If you’re lucky, you might spot some local wildlife, including short-tailed shearwaters, wallabies and echidnas.

Summer Markets. The island’s summer markets offer visitors the chance to stock up on some of the best local and regional produce, wine and cheese, arts and crafts, unique gifts, stylish clothing, delicious food, tasty drinks, and so much more. Head over to the Churchill Island Farmers Market, which offers breathtaking views across the bay. Alternatively, check out the Cowes Sunday Market located on the island waterfront, in Cowes. It’s a fantastic spot to find souvenirs and gifts while sampling some of the island’s best food and drinks.

Beaches. No trip to Phillip Island is complete without visiting the island’s beaches. If you want to swim or paddleboard, you can head to the generally calm waters of Cowes Main Beach, Red Rocks Beach, San Remo Back Beach, and Ventnor Beach. Cowes Main Beach is patrolled by lifesavers during the summer holidays. For those interested in surfing or learning to surf, Smiths Beach or YCW Beach are the places to go. If you prefer reef breaks, the popular spots include Cat Bay and Shelly Beach. Experienced surfers can also enjoy the beach breaks from Surfies Point to Cape Woolamai.
