Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive Uluru – Sacred Sites & Sunset
On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you’ll be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm).

Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn more about the Western Desert region, then tour the sacred sites around the base of Uluru with a local Driver Guide. Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole, and view ancient Aboriginal rock art. In the late afternoon, relax with a glass of sparkling wine as the sun sets over Uluru, bringing out the myriad shades of colour for which the world’s largest monolith is renowned.

Day 2 Uluru – Kata Tjuta – Kings Canyon
Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight. Later, travel to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations.

This afternoon travel to Kings Canyon and overnight at Kings Canyon Resort.

Day 3 Kings Canyon – Depart Alice Springs
At sunrise, make the steep rocky climb to the rim of the Kings Canyon for spectacular views of Watarrka National Park. Follow the rim of the canyon, stopping to look down into the gorge from a series of lookout points along the way. The rim walk takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is rocky and steep in parts. If you wish to take an easier, shorter walk instead, you can explore the boulder-strewn canyon creek bed, getting up-close to the native plants and birdlife that call this part of the world home.

Overnight in Alice Springs.

Day 4 – The Ghan, Depart Alice Springs
An early evening departure from Alice Springs Terminal and it is time to enjoy modern Australian cuisine and regional fine wines onboard. And of course, there’s time to socialise with your fellow traveller before retiring to your comfortable private cabin for the night.

Day 5 – Katherine and Darwin
The pristine wilderness of Katherine is stirring and powerful, and you’ll have the chance to explore it from the water or land with your choice of off train experiences. Cruise the jaw-dropping Nitmiluk Gorge, learn more about its ancient Indigenous rock paintings and gain insight into the culture of the traditional owners of Nitmiluk, the Jawoyn people; or discover a slice of authentic outback life on a cattle station for a unique window to the inner working of life in the outback. You’ll hear rollicking stories, watch a horse and cattle dog demonstration, and sit back and relax with a live music performance of Aussie anthems. Once back on board, share lunch and laughter with new and old friends as the train makes its way through lush, green tropics to arrive at the terminal in Darwin in the early evening.

Stay for the next 4 nights at Mantra on the Esplanade in Darwin

Day 6 – 8 – Darwin
Enjoy time at leisure to enjoy the tropical city of Darwin, or perhaps join an optional tour to Katherine Gorge and Edith Falls (charges apply)

Day 8
Full day tour to Kakadu National Park including a Yellow Water Billabong Cruise. World Heritage listed and the largest National Park in Australia, Kakadu is one of the most diverse landscapes you’ll ever experience, and you’ll be amazed at the population of wildlife in the water, on the land and in the air. See some of the most amazing terrain Australia has to offer on your way to and inside Kakadu. Marvel at the concentration of rock art sites that illustrate Aboriginal culture, some dating back 50,000 years.

Day 9
Your holiday ends.
